Twenty million fans won't help! What's the problem

More than 20 million fans, actor status and official invitations for the Sino-American Film Festival.

It is the understanding of many that such a condition should also have the advantage of applying for a United States visa.

But reality is unexpected.

In October 2026, Zhang Baijo, a red-born actor, was filmed by street collectors after his signature at the United States Embassy in China. Faced with the camera, he stated directly that his own United States visa had been denied and that the film festival planned for next month had been affected.

Soon after the news got out, it caught a lot of debate.

Some find it inconceivable that there is visibility, a job, an official invitation, and why is it rejected?

There was also an analysis of whether the DS-160 application form had been filled in with a problem, or whether it was not satisfactory to answer when it was signed.

However, with regard to the specific reasons for Zhang Baijo ' s refusal to sign, the completion form for the online discussion, the face-marking and the binding effect on his return to the country can only serve as possible directions of analysis and cannot be directly identified as the real reason for his refusal.

But this is really worth talking about.

Because it once again alerts many of those who intend to apply for United States visas to the fact that an invitation does not necessarily mean that a visa will be granted, or that it is well known or does not mean that special care will be granted.

I. Why would a formal invitation be refused?

First of all, there is a misunderstanding that many people are prone to.

I'm not sure what I'm talking about.Would it mean that the United States visa was secure if you could get an official invitation from the host?

The answer is no.

In the case of United States short-term visas, the primary role of the invitation letter is to help the applicant explain the purpose of the trip to the United States.

For example:

  • Why America?
  • For what?
  • Who invited you?
  • How long are you planning to stay in America?
  • What are you going to do after the event?

A genuine and complete invitation could help visa officials to understand these situations.

But the problem is,Proof of reason to go to the United States does not mean that you will leave the United States on time.

There are two different issues.

Even if the host does invite you to a film festival, and even if the event itself is entirely real and reasonable, the visa officer will have to assess the applicant ' s personal circumstances, his or her American purposes, his or her financial ability and whether the corresponding visa requirements are met.

The invitation is not a certificate of sponsorship, much less a pass that would circumvent the normal clearance process.

For Zhang Baijo, the invitation for the Sino-American Film Festival could explain why he planned to travel to the United States but could not decide the final visa results alone.

That is why someone with a stack of invited material is still at risk of being rejected.

Why would Zhang Baijo be refused a visa? These directions deserve attention.

It is important to stress that the following is an analysis that takes into account the general audit logic of non-immigrant visas in the United States and does not imply that there are certain problems in Zhang.

There are several aspects to understanding this event.

1. Accuracy and completeness of DS-160 application forms

Applications for United States visas, DS-160 forms, are very important.

This form covers the applicant ' s work experience, educational background, travel to the United States, travel arrangements, financial situation and other personal information.

For public figures such as Zhang Baijo, his professional experience may be special.

He is both an author of short video and a filmmaker. He may need to be more explicit about the nature of his occupation, the source of income and the relationship between this trip to the United States and his existing work than an applicant whose income is relatively constant.

640 (5).jfif

For example, is the occupational information on the application form accurate? Is the purpose of the visit to the United States consistent with the content of the invitation? Can past experience, income and other submitted information be mutually corroborated?

These are elements that applicants should carefully check.

This may be made more difficult if there is a clear contradiction between the application or if the description of the purpose of the trip to the United States is not sufficiently clear.

2. Are the professional characteristics of public figures easily explained?

Zhang Bai Jo has had a special experience.

He worked as a film performer in the early years, then built up a large number of fans with short videos and gradually returned to the film industry.

For ordinary workers, a work certificate may be a labour contract, an employment certificate and a fixed income record.

However, occupational and income structures may be more complex for the red-red, freelance and video workers.

Revenue may come from platform creation, business cooperation, film pay and other legitimate business. The organization of work is not necessarily entirely fixed, and some items are also phased in.

This does not mean that Internet reds or actors are more likely to be rejected.

The key is whether the applicant can clearly and honestly describe his or her professional status and whether these are consistent with the application forms and other materials.

For those who are more flexible in their careers, it is often more meaningful to prove what they are doing, where they earn, what they have in the future to do, than simply to emphasize how many fans they have.

640 (6).jfif

Can the true purpose of this visit to the United States be fully explained?

The reason why the applicant went to the United States was one of the key considerations in the visa clearance process.

In the case of participation in a film festival, it should be possible to justify the content of the event, the role of the individual, the specific itinerary and why he or she needs to participate in person.

For public figures, the number of fans, the results of works and media coverage can indeed help explain their social influence and professional background.

However, this information is not the same as the specific purpose of the trip.

For example, an actor invited to a film festival can explain his or her plans to travel to the United States through official invitations, a programme of activities, and relevant working arrangements.

If other business activities are involved, they should also be properly declared and ensure that the actual activity corresponds to the type of visa requested.

What needs to be noted is thatEven if the invitation to the United States is genuine and valid, it does not mean that the visa must be granted.

The visa officer is required to make a comprehensive assessment of the applicant ' s overall situation and not to base a decision on a single material.

4. Is the binding effect of return sufficiently clear?

This is probably the most important concern of ordinary applicants in this case.

Under section 214 (b) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, applicants for non-immigrant visas who apply the provisions of that article are presumed, in principle, to have an immigrant orientation and are required to prove to the visa officer that they meet the non-immigrant status requirements of the application.

In the actual examination, the visa officer makes a comprehensive determination in relation to the purpose of the applicant ' s travel, his/her personal circumstances, his/her financial situation and his/her country of residence.

In short, visa officials need not only to know why you went to the United States, but also to judge whether your travel plans meet the requirements for short-term visits.

What, then, can reflect a person ' s binding return?

These usually include the following:

First, stable career and working arrangements.

For example, a going concern, clear job responsibilities, follow-up project arrangements, or a film-and-visual plan that can be reasonably explained.

Secondly, real and reasonable economic conditions.

For example, income, source of funds and financial records that match an individual ' s occupation.

Thirdly, the family and other social ties.

For example, family relations in the country of residence, long-term living arrangements and other links that reflect the actual situation of the individual.

640 (7).jfif

Fourth, a clear and reasonable travel plan.

This includes travel to the United States, the duration of stay, the manner in which costs are borne, and arrangements for the end of activities.

Here, however, it is necessary to correct an error: the binding effect of return does not amount to the need to own property or to the need for a five-year employment contract.

The United States visa does not have a uniform scoring formula that applies to all, much less rules that allow for the approval of the higher the number of properties and the higher the deposits.

For freelancers, actors or entrepreneurs, the key is to be able to present their reality with real and consistent information.

5. Are the answers clear and consistent when signing?

In addition to the application materials, face-marking is a major concern.

The visa officer may conduct inquiries around the purpose of the trip to the United States, the status of his or her work, the duration of his or her stay, and the source of the costs.

For the applicant, it is important not to answer each question in a particularly beautiful manner, but to be true, accurate, clear and consistent with the application form and the actual situation.

For example, the fact that the purpose of the trip to the United States on the application form was to attend the film festival was not clearly indicated at the time of the signing, or that there was no clear explanation of their occupation, source of income and travel costs could raise further questions.

Of course, face-to-face time is usually limited and a brief answer does not imply a problem.

Moreover, so-called “face-marking” “no smile” or “not formal enough to wear” cannot be directly recognized as the reason for the refusal.

Three, 20 million fans, why can't they be a United States-issued plus-point pass?

640 (2).png

Zhang Baijo's experience is actually very representative.

He used to run in Beijing to make a living, and later developed a human face on short video, with more than 20 million fans.

However, after reaching a certain level of traffic, he did not remain entirely on the Internet, but was re-involved in a video show, hoping to prove his ability through his work.

From short video creators to actors, it's not easy.

But at the United States visa application stage, these experiences do not translate directly into a visa advantage.

The reason is simple:Public visibility and the concerns of non-immigrant visa audits are not the same logic.

With a large number of fans, a person can be shown to be influential on the Internet; a person can be seen to have a professional experience; and an invitation to a film festival can help to explain the context of his or her travel to the United States.

This information does not, however, provide a separate proof that the applicant meets the visa requirements.

Similarly, the lack of visibility of ordinary people does not mean that it is more difficult to obtain a visa than a star.

Visa clearance is not a reputational competition.

640 (8).jfif

An ordinary staff member with a small number of fans may also be authorized if the purpose of the visit is clear, the material is true and the personal circumstances are reasonable.

An actor with a large number of fans, even with an official invitation, is still subject to regular vetting.

So it is not enough to say that Zhang Baicho lost his reputation, but it is not in itself the core criterion for determining the outcome of a visa.

IV. Can we reapply for United States visas after they have been denied?

What happens to those planning to participate in film festivals, business events or other short-term visits if they are denied a visa?

First, there is a need to know about their refusals.

In the event of a refusal to sign under article 214 (b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, the applicant may normally apply for a new application, but this does not mean that a new appointment and a further payment will change the result.

Before reapplying, the original application should be carefully reviewed:

  • ** Checking DS-160 information. ** To confirm the accuracy of information on work experience, travel to the United States and sources of income.
  • ** Comfort to America. ** Clarify the specific purpose of the trip, the duration of the stay and the schedule of activities.
  • ** Improved vocational and economic materials. ** Based on the actual situation in the country, materials are prepared that can account for work, income and sources of funding.
  • ** To ensure consistency of information. ** Application forms, invitations, itinerary and face-to-face responses should be based on the facts.
  • ** To assess whether there have been any substantive changes. ** If the personal circumstances, organization of work or purpose of the travel remain unchanged, simply changing the clothes and familiarizing the answers will not necessarily solve the original problem.

It should also be recalled that the refusal does not have a uniform waiting period for all applicants, but whether it is worth reapplying immediately, requiring a comprehensive assessment of the type of refusal, the individual situation and the subsequent itinerary.

If the trip to the United States is approaching, the applicant will also need to consider the time required for a new appointment and review.

Even with additional information, it is not possible to guarantee a visa before the start of the activity.

640 (3).png

V. What is more of concern than a refusal to sign is the wrong zone in which a normal person applies for a visa.

Zhang Baijo was denied a visa, which made many people realize once again that a United States visa is not a pass that can be directly exchanged by identity, reputation or invitation.

For ordinary applicants, what really needs attention is not whether or not they have the same star material, but whether they can explain their situation.

If you are a staff member, give a true account of work, income and travel arrangements.

If you are a freelancer, you will be able to account for your occupation and source of income with information appropriate to your situation.

If you are an operator of a business, prepare materials in the context of the actual business, its operation and this trip to the United States.

If you are an actress, blogger or trade person invited to the event, ensure that the invitation, the schedule of the event is consistent with the actual purpose of the travel.

There is no need to package the material in such a way as to make it look more beautiful, let alone to believe in what is termed “maintained channels” or “internal relationships”.

The visa examination is based on the general situation of the applicant, and it is the truth, the consistency of the information and the clarity of the purpose that should guide the preparation of the application.

Finally back to Zhang Baijo.

640 (4).png

From running dragons to building up millions of fans and returning to the film industry, he spent years looking for his place.

This time, the denial of a United States visa did add a variable to the original itinerary.

But we cannot assume that a person is not bound to return to his country because he was refused a visa, nor that he should be granted a visa officer because he has millions of fans.

Before the specific reasons for the refusal were made public, the most rational approach was to discuss the visa rules rather than to draw conclusions on behalf of the parties.

After all, visa applications are not a match for fame. For each applicant, it is more meaningful to know the rules, to be honest, to be prepared than to expect an invitation or the identity of a public figure.
