U.S. EVUS REGISTRATION FEES ARE UP. WE DIDN'T DO THIS BEFORE WE WENT TO AMERICA

EVUSOfficial increase in costs! Attention to travelers to the United States! The latest fee is in effect!

A friend who plans to go to the United States in the near future, do not forget to check an important procedure before leaving: EVUS registration.

The latest bulletin issued by the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) shows that, effective 16 October 2026, EVUS registration fees were formally adjusted, increasing the single registration fee from $30.75 to $31.75, an increase of $1.

Although the increase is modest, if you are in possession of a Chinese passport and a United States B visa valid for 10 years, and are prepared to travel to the United States for travel, family visits or business in the near future, it will be necessary to know about this adjustment and in which cases re-registration is required.

I. How much has the EVUS cost gone up? The new standards have been implemented

This adjustment relates mainly to EVUS registration costs, as follows:

  • ** Original rate: **$30.75
  • ** New rate: **31.75
  • ** Cost increase:** $1
  • ** Entry into force: ** 16 October 2026

The new rates are now in effect from the effective date. In the case of applicants who have not yet completed payment, it is recommended that the amount shown on the closing page of the EVUS website be used.

It is recalled that if the EVUS registration had previously been completed and the registration status was still valid, there would normally be no need to reapply for this cost adjustment or to pay the difference of $1.

Therefore, there is no need to be eager to repeat applications because of higher costs. What really requires attention is the effectiveness of their status of registration and whether passport and visa information has changed.

ii. Who needs EVUS?

The full English name of EVUS is Electronic Visa Update System, and the Chinese name is “A visa update electronic system”.

This post is part of our special coverage Syria Protests 2011.Passengers who hold a passport of the People ' s Republic of China and are also in possession of a United States visa valid for 10 years for B1, B2 or B1/B2 are usually required to complete the EVUS registration before they go to the United States.

This procedure is not the same as a United States visa, and it should not be confused.

In short:

  • ** United States visa:** visa documents for travel to the United States.
  • ** EVUS registry:** Electronic information register for eligible passengers.
  • ** Entry permit to the United States: ** Decision is taken on a case-by-case basis by Customs and Border Protection officials at United States ports.

Even if a valid United States 10-year visa is in place, it does not mean that the EVUS registration requirement can be ignored.

How long does the EVUS last?

In general, EVUS registration is valid for two years.

However, the original registration may lapse earlier if the passport or visa expires during the registration period or if there are other circumstances requiring re-registration.

I have to be careful.The change of passport usually requires re-registration of the EVUS using new passport information.Even if the original registration had not yet expired, it should not be directly assumed that it could continue to be used.

iii. Processing EVUS.

The EVUS registration is not per se complex, but it may cause unnecessary trouble for the journey if the information is filled in wrongly or there is no state of check prior to departure.

1. Do not schedule registration on the last day before departure

It is recommended that processing be planned in advance to allow room for information reconciliation, processing of applications and necessary modifications. Some of the applications may need to be further processed, so that the problems are detected in the proximity of the departure and are more passive.

Passports and visa information must be accurate

Upon completion, emphasis is placed on checking passport numbers, visa information, personal data and job information. Careful check before submission so as not to affect registration because of an entry error.

Reconfirm EVUS status before departure

If EVUS has been processed previously, it should not be judged by memory alone. It is recommended that the current status of registration be viewed on the official website prior to travel.

The success of the EVUS registration does not mean that we can enter the United States.

The registration of EVUS is only one of the formalities to be completed prior to travel to the United States. It is not a substitute for a valid visa, nor is it guaranteed that entry will be granted.

Passengers are still required to meet the corresponding passport, visa and entry requirements and to prepare relevant materials such as return tickets, itinerary, etc. according to their own circumstances.

IV. With regard to EVUS, several common questions are addressed at once

Q1: EVUS is six months away. Do you need to re-register?

Not required generally. As long as the current registration remains valid and no re-registration is required, it can be continued.

Q2: The application has been completed but has not yet been paid, at which price should it be paid?

The new rates became effective on 16 October 2026. Applications for which contributions have not been completed shall be based on the amounts currently shown in the official system of EVUS.

Q3: Will the original EVUS remain in service after the change of passport?

New passport information is usually required for re-registration. Upon change of passport, it is recommended that the EVUS requirements be checked in a timely manner and that registration information bound to the old passport not be used directly.

Q4: Does EVUS have to reapply for every trip to America during its validity?

Not required generally. As long as the registration remains in force and the passport, visa and related information meets the requirements, it may normally continue to be used for the duration of its validity. In the event of a change in personal data or documents, the need for re-registration should be confirmed.

Q5: Do those who have succeeded in doing so need to make up for the increase in EVUS costs?

Usually not. Passengers who have been successfully registered and whose registration is still valid need not reapply or pay the difference simply because of the cost.

V. Prepare to go to America in the near future.

The EVUS cost adjustment was modest, with an increase of only $1 per registration, but the procedures associated with pre-departure screening remain necessary for passengers preparing to travel to the United States.

In particular, the following categories are recommended for early confirmation:

  • First-time EVUS passengers;
  • EVUS passengers due to expire;
  • Passengers who have recently changed their passports;
  • Air tickets have been booked and travelers are expected to travel to the United States in the near future.
